England secured their place in the last 32 of the FIFA World Cup with a 0-2 win over Panama in New Jersey.
Following a 0-0 draw with Ghana last time out, Thomas Tuchel’s 3 Lions went into this game looking to bounce back and secure top spot. But it was Panama who held the early momentum, as moments after kickoff winger Tomás Rodriguez attempted a long range effort from the edge of the box, but it did little to trouble England shot stopper Jordan Pickford.
The remainder of the first half continued to be an end to end affair, the most notable attempt coming from Marcus Rashford, who’s shot from the edge of the box was parried away by Orlando Mosquera in the Panama goal. Despite the many chances, neither side could make their chances count, thus seeung them enter Half time level.
England came back out into for the second half looking to break the deadlock, and they came close on several occasions, where in the 52nd minute an attempt from Harry Kane was cleared off the line and moments later Marcus Rashford could only steer his one and one oppurtunity into the side netting.
In the 67th minute, England did finally make the break through. Bukayo Saka’s corner found the outstreched foot of Jude Bellingham, as the Real Madrid star put England infront. It didn’t take long for England to double their advantage , as only two minutes later, Beelingham’s cross found the head of Harry Kane, his goal sealing England the win. That goal also saw Kane become England’s record goalscorer at World Cup finals.
England’s victory sees them finish top of Group L, and sets up a round of 32 tie with DR Congo in Atalanta, as Thomas Tuchel’s side look to secure their place in the last 16.
